Citizens Advice North Herts to provide new service to help people claiming Universal Credit
Citizens Advice North Herts has launched a new service to better help people who need support claiming Universal Credit after it received new government funding. The charity has already been helping local people since the new benefit was introduced.
The new service will offer people the comprehensive and practical support they need to get paid on time and manage their money. It was launched in April and is available online, over the phone and in person.
Citizens Advice North Herts offers independent, impartial advice every day to people in Letchworth, Hitchin, Royston, Baldock and the surrounding villages and benefits are the top issue people come to us for help with.
A recent survey by the charity found more than a third of people Citizens Advice have helped nationally struggle to provide the evidence needed to complete their Universal Credit claim, the charity’s research has found. This includes providing evidence for health conditions, housing and childcare.
Rosie Waters, Chief Officer of Citizens Advice North Herts, said: “Problems with benefits is the top issue for which people come to us for help.
“For people receiving benefits the roll-out of Universal Credit has brought challenges, such as delayed payments and a complicated application process.
“Our advisers are already helping people who are struggling with the system, the new funding to support people will their Universal Credit claim will help even more.”
